Let's capture your child's uniqueness!
You've booked your family photo session, the outfits are picked out, and now...the nerves set in.
What if my kids won't sit still? What if someone melts down? What if no one smiles?
First: Take a big, deep breath. I promise, it's going to be okay.
At Blue Onion Photography, I specialize in capturing real connection and personality--not stiff smiles or perfectly still toddlers. You don't want that anyways, do you? ;) Here's how to help your kids feel comfortable, have fun, be themselves, and make some photo magic.
Set the Tone Early
Talk about the session ahead of time in a way that gets your kid excited. Say something like: "We're going to play and take some pictures with [insert my name if you want], and it's going to be fun! We might run around, cuddle, play games, and be silly."
Let them know it's not about "behaving"--it's about being together.
Let them Be Themselves
If your kid is wild, shy, giggly, or clingy--it's all okay. Lifestyle photography is about capturing who your family is, not forcing them to be something they're not.
The best photos happen when everyone is relaxed and allowed to just be.
Don't Stress Over Smiles
The last thing I want you doing during our session is saying, "SMILE!" over and over. The best smiles come from:
Tickles
Whispered Jokes
Goofy Dances
Just Being Together
Let me guide the flow--it's my job to bring the energy and capture the moments.
Bring a Comfort Item (or Snack)
If your little one has a favorite stuffed animal or blankie, bring it along. It might even make a sweet appearance in a few photos. Same with a snack--think something dry and non-messy, like plain crackers. It can be a game-changer.
Lower the Bar, Raise the Magic
Don't stress about perfection. If someone throws a leaf, jumps in a puddle, or yells mid-session...it's fine. Some of the most treasured images come from the unplanned stuff!
It's All About YOU
At the end of the day, these photos are about connection--not perfection. So come as you are, let your kids be themselves, and trust me to find the beauty in it all.
